How to Search—And What to Ask

Pointing the way to evidence-based care®

Three types of professional treatment providers are most likely to offer evidence-based treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD), and thousands of them offer care nationwide:

  • licensed professional therapists with addiction specialties,
  • specialty alcohol treatment programs, and
  • board-certified addiction doctors.

In the sections below, we'll show you how to search several directories to find qualified treatment providers. These will give you a place to start.

Unless you have a specific need or preference, we recommend searching for all three types of providers to see all your options.

When you find a provider who looks promising, call and ask more about the treatment approach. We'll give you a list of questions to ask—and answers to listen for—that can help you determine if providers offer higher-quality care, and if they are a good fit for your situation.
